Wilson said the closure itself was due to the accident and not weather, although weather may have contributed to the accident. "I know that visibility was a big issue in a lot of areas," he said.
As of Saturday, Feb. 3, around noon, there were icy spots on U.S. 285 between Denver and Fairplay, but winds had died down some from Friday, according to Wilson.
The only highway that was closed Friday because of the winds and low visibility was Highway 93 between Golden and Boulder, said Wilson.
Several wind advisories were in place on Friday. A wind advisory can encompass both visibility issues and wind-related problems staying in a lane for light and high-profile vehicles.
