All Park County schools closed except Lake George
All Park County schools except for Lake George Charter School were closed Tuesday because of snowy weather.

After initially announcing delayed starts, both Fairplay-based Re-2 School District and Bailey-based Platte Canyon School District Re-1 decided to cancel school for the day.

As of 6:30 a.m. both school districts had announced delayed starts, but later Tuesday morning they announced the closure of schools for the day.

The Guffey Community Charter School, in southeast Park County, also canceled school for the day.

Lake George Charter School, in southeast Park County was operating on schedule Tuesday, starting at the usual time of 7:55 a.m., said administrative secretary Julie Gilley. "We only had about three inches of snow," she said.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, chain law restrictions were in effect for southbound commercial vehicles, including buses and vans with 16-plus passenger capacity, on Colorado Highway 9 over Hoosier Pass, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation Web site. Conditions on U.S. 285 in Turkey Creek Canyon, between C-470 and Conifer, and in Kenosha Pass, between Bailey and Fairplay, were described as snowy, icy and snowpacked by CDOT's Web site Tuesday morning.

The cocorahs.org Web site stated that Fairplay, as of 5 a.m. Tuesday, had received 3.8 inches of new snow accumulation and 15.5 inches of total snow accumulation. Guffey had received 1.5 inches of new snow as of 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Web site. Conifer had received 5.5 new inches of snow as of 6 a.m. Alma had received 3.9 inches of new snow and 19 inches of total snow as of 7 a.m. Tuesday. Bailey had received 5.1 inches of new snow and 11 inches of total snow as of 7 a.m. One Lake George site had received 1.8 inches of new snow and 6 inches of total snow as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, and another Lake George site had received 5.9 inches of new snow and 9 inches of total snow as of 7 a.m. One Como site had received 4.5 inches of new snow and 8.5 inches of total snow as of 8 a.m.
