Take a seat Hollywood. Bailey's handling this one.

The indie horror/comedy "Best Ribs in Town" has been shooting at the Bailey Lodge and Sweet Fanny Adams west of downtown Bailey and was scheduled to finish on Oct. 10.

Writer and Director David Mikalson, 22, said the production of his genre-blending movie about murder and meat would move to his Denver-area studio to finish shooting.

The 90-minute feature film is about a diner run by five sisters. The sisters seduce their male patrons, then add them to the menu.

Chris Ferro, an actor in the film who also fills a number of production roles, said the film has brought together talent from New York, California, and a number of places in between.

The movie also boasts Emmy-award-winning director of photography Ric Waite, who worked on the movies "Footloose" and "Red Dawn."

The crew descended upon Bailey after a friend of the director suggested he shoot in Bailey.

Ferro said when Mikalson saw Sweet Fanny Adams, he knew he had to film in Bailey.

"When he first saw it, he knew it was the diner the girls were running," he said.

Ferro said the cast and crew has had a positive experience filming in Bailey, and a number of locals were cast as extras.

Mikalson said he has been part of more than 50 films and has directed 12, although all of them have been shorts.

He said he wasn't used to being on set for a month straight, but he was enjoying the experience.

New York actor Rachel Risen, who plays one of the sisters, said she has enjoyed her time in Colorado.

She described her character as a woman with "seductive intelligence" who uses men to get what she wants.

According to Ferro, what the sisters want is a cheap source of meat.

"They harvest men for their meat, and they serve it in the diner," he said.

But the grizzly tone of the film is in stark contrast to the scenery of the filming location, said Risen.

"It's so beautiful here," she said.

She also said the locals have been especially nice to the entire production staff.

"The people in Bailey have been so nice and so wonderful to us," she said.

Bailey Lodge Manager Kate Murphy said this isn't the first film crew to stay at the lodge, but it was the first to be filming a movie there.

She said she told the filmmakers that she didn't want inappropriate movies shot at the lodge.

"I was very direct in my concern that it wasn't a porn movie or a snuff film," she said.

But after seeing some of the scenes being shot and talking with the cast and crew, her fears were put to rest.

"Everybody has been so polite and respectful. It's been a good experience," she said.

The film will be taken to various film festivals around the country, according to Mikalson.

He was also hoping for a screening at Sweet Fanny Adams after shooting is finished.

Although the diner is never named in the movie, Ferro said, eagle-eyed observers will be able to spot Sweet Fanny Adams' name in the background of some scenes.

Karen Smart, owner of Sweet Fanny Adams, said she opened her restaurant for the cast and crew, fixing them breakfast, lunch and dinner each day.

The film's crew has done dishes and cleaned up after themselves. "They are all nice young kids," she said.

Sweet Fanny Adams is open Friday and Saturday evenings.
